1. SAARE CHUATTOR, 1953

This is a movie that is loved by everyone and when I say everyone I mean of age group 8 to 80. This is a hilarious comedy journey directed by Nirmal Dey having actors like Tulsi Chakraborty, Molina Devi, Bhanu, Jahar and to add with them the most favourite couple of Tollywood, Uttam Kumar and Suchitra Sen. The film narrates a story about a boarding house where all the boarders are friendly except an elderly boarder known as Rajanibabu. However, the comic turn of events begin when a rich boarder called Rampriti and the only woman boarder and also a relative of the boarding’s owner Romola fall in love with each other. Accidentally their love letter goes to Rajanibabu’s wife and she starts doubting about an extramarital affair of her husband. How these events take on the boarding house with absolute comedy is a treat to watch. So it acquires position one in this list.

2. GOLPO HOLEO SOTTI, 1966

This film is a story of a house and its residents who are though relatives but cannot stand each other for even a second. These relations are so deteriorated that these affects their personal as well as professional lives. Now, the comic events turn up when an outsider comes into the family and tries to soothe these broken relationships. Directed by Tapan Sinha and acted by some of the best actors of all time this movies is a must watch for its plot and directorial narrative. The thespian of comedy in Bengali theatre and films, Rabi Ghosh is the central character in the movie. To watch his gestures and gimmicks will not only leave you spellbound but will give you a good amount of laugh to begin your New Year with.

3. BAKSHO BODOL, 1970

This 1970 romantic comedy has veteran actors Soumitra Chatterjee and Aparna Sen in the lead roles. Directed by Nityananda Dutta, the story as the name suggests is about two passengers on a train journey whose luggage get exchanged. The screenplay of the story has been done by none other than legendary Satyajit Ray. Soumitra is a psychiatrist and once he finds the luggage of the very pampered and happy-go-lucky girl Aparna, he gets interested. The confession of his love for her and the process to win her heart is hilarious. It not only stirs the tickle bone of yours but also makes sure you don’t get even a single moment without laugh.

4. CHODDOBESHI, 1971

This 1971 release is a classic Bengali comedy and has been remade in hindi as “Chupke Chupke.” It has Uttam Kumar, Madhobi Mukherjee, Bikash Roy, Shubhendu Chatterjee, Tarun Kumar, Samita Biswas, Anubha Gupta, Jahar Roy, Jyotsna Biswas, Ajoy Banerjee and Lily Chakraborty. It is a story of a Botany professor, Abanish sen who marries Sulekha and decides to play a trick with her brother-in-law, played by Bikash Roy who considers himself a stalwart of recognizing people on their face value. How this trick fools the man and other events that turn out as the trick’s consequences is a must watch.

5. MOUCHAK, 1975

Mouchak, directed by Arabinda Mukhopadhyay stars Uttam Kumar, Mithu Mukherjee, Ranjit Mullik and Sabitri Chatterjee in the lead roles. The narration goes as a newly appointed good-looking, charming and extremely handsome government officer comes to a new locality and catches the eyes of the fathers of the unmarried brides-to-be. All of them tries to woo this new officer to fix marriage with their respective daughters and how the events turn out where they do not miss even a single chance to let him go off their hands. But the officer has something else in his mind. To know what it is watch it as soon as possible to start you New Year with a broad and wide grin.

6. OGO BODHU SUNDARI, 1981

This film is a classic for two reasons, its comedy and because it is the last film of Uttam Kumar. Directed by Salil Dutta the film has Uttam Kumar, Sumitra Mukherjee, Bikash Roy, Ranjit Mullik and Moushumi Chatterjee in the lead roles. It even has Santosh Dutta as “Abolakanto” which shall not be missed at any cost. It is a story of rescuing a beautiful slum girl, played by Moushumi Chatterjee by Uttam Kumar to groom her and educate her in order to make her suitable for the society. How his wife, Sumitra Mukherjee takes this genuine gesture being manipulated by some of her acquaintance is a treat to watch as it promises the best amount of laugh.

7. BHOOTER BHOBISHYOT, 2012

The last in our list is the directorial debut of Anik Dutta. The film has an ensemble cast starting from Parambtrata Chatterjee to Sabyasachi Chakraborty, Swastika Mukherjee, Poran bandopadhyay, Mumtaz Sorcar, George Baker and many. It is a story where a young aspiring ad director is about to make his directorial debut but is congused with the plot of his story. He visits the location for one of his ad films and falls asleep. But when he wakes up he has the story for his next film in his mind as well as the amount of money required to make it. Now how does that occur, can be only seen in the film. To get a laughing riot this film is a must watch.
