Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday conducted a meeting with the floor leaders of parliament through video conference to discuss the current scenario of COVID-19 in India focussing on the key elements to deal with the pandemic.

In the meeting, Narendra Modi indicated that the center might not uplift the lockdown at a go on 14 April. He said ‘lockdown is the only way to save our people’ from the deadly virus. In India, the total number of positive cases has already crossed the 5000 mark. States like Telangana, Maharastra, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh amongst others have already extended the lockdown.

PM Modi said life won’t be same after the Coronavirus pandemic, there will be pre- corona and post corona in the coming days.

We are taking quick decisions which is why India is one of the few countries in the world where the spread of the virus is still under control, he said.

PM Modi further added, I regularly converse with the CMs, experts and districts. Nobody has told me to lift the lockdown. We need to impose strict rules to maintain social distancing and also need to take unexpected steps if needed.

I will again talk to the Chief Ministers. But, right now, it’s not possible to lift the entire lockdown. We need to understand, that everyday situations are changing. Countries across the globe are banking on social distancing and lockdown. As this is the only way to combat COVID-19, PM Modi said.

As per the reports of Health Minister, the total number of cases rose to 5,865, while the death toll is now 169.

Prime Minister Modi will conduct another meeting with the Chief Ministers on April 11.
