Travelling doesn’t have any age bar, everyone loves to explore and April - May is the pick hour for travelling for every Indian because of summer holidays or semester breaks. Every travel plans are executed approximately 4 months prior so that booking ticket gets easier. 

Due to the ongoing global health crisis and the extension of nationwide lockdown to fight Coronavirus. Indian Railways are set to cancel about 94 Lakh ticket bookings for travel between April 15 and May 3. As passenger trains have been suspended till the wake of COVID-19 pandemic. 

Railways to refund a whopping amount of Rs 1,490 crore for cancellation of ticket booking made by passengers before the nationwide lockdown.

Indian Railways didn’t stop bookings for journeys beginning April 15. However, the 21-day lockdown was initially scheduled to end at midnight of April 14. But, due to the increasing number of positive cases the lockdown has been extended till 3rd May. 

The announcement stalled more than 15,000 passenger trains of the railways, thousands of people, be it migrant workers or students are unable to return to their hometowns as they were only given four hours before Prime Minister Modi announced nationwide lockdown.  

Indian Railways announced no advance reservation of train tickets won’t be allowed without further notice. Though the online cancellation of tickets will be functional. Passengers will get a full refund for tickets booked during the period, money would be automatically transferred to online customer and those who booked their tickets from the designated reservation counters could claim the refund till 31st July.
