‘Gender bias’ or ‘Gender inequality’ are two terms that are widespread and widely used in any millennial conversation. Opinionated pieces flood social media talking about feminism.

You’ll find mostly women talking about how their gender is dominated, groped, assaulted, manhandled and forbidden from so many things, unlike men who are privileged with almost everything. Maybe, even at times, we all have nagged about it too when we weren’t allowed for a sleepover, but our male friends were.

Lately, we have been coming across many feminists or 'pseudo feminists', who have completely misplaced the notion about FEMINISM! Well, if truth be told, the radical meaning of Feminism is getting lost in the crowd of pseudo-feminists and their theories about less empowering women and more of dominating the opposite sex. However, when feminism as a theory was formalized in the 1960s it stood for something which many of us have forgotten today. GENDER EQUALITY. Doing away with gender bias was the first thing that the theory proposed.

Feminism involves political and sociological theories and philosophies concerned with issues of gender difference, as well as a movement that advocates gender equality for women and campaigns for women's rights and interests.

Now, there are misunderstood notions of what actually are women’s rights and interests. It doesn’t necessarily mean to throw, thrash or spit on the male gender but make them aware of women and their necessary fundamental rights. It’s not tolerating abuse of any kind from anyone.

The idea of feminism has failed a lot of times because of women misusing and misunderstanding their powers. Which is a major issue because people fail to understand false accusations can destroy one’s career and life.

If we, take a quick glance over the last few years, some men were falsely accused of rape and molestation, people were quick to pass judgements and tagged them like a pervert or harasser. And the stats not only confine just to a particular country but to a global phenomenon. how less knowledge can trigger and destroy things that were actually crafted to safeguard the women’s rights.

If you remember about Jasleen Kaur a student of Delhi University St. Stephan’s College, who accused Saravjeet Singh of harassing her, threating her and also claimed he was passing awful comments on her. The media and people were quickly triggered and Jasleen was applauded for her bravery, but Saravjeet’s plea of not being guilty fell on deaf ears. Until the investigation took place and the eyewitness vouched in favour of Saravjeet claiming Jasleen was the one who abused Saravjeet. This was an example of one of the many cases of misusing women power.

Well, we do know a coin has two different sides. You can see one at a time as the other side waits for its turn. Just like that men and women face inequality in different aspects. In our society, women are given the benefit of doubt more than men.

Recently, Bollywood actress Neha Dhupia who is a leader at the Indian adventure reality show Roadies Revolution aired on MTV,  lashed out at a contestant during the auditions when he admitted slapping his allegedly errant girlfriend.

Neha was heard saying and we quote, “if a girl cheats it’s her choice and maybe the problem lies with you. Nobody gives you the f***ing right to slap.

Netizens were definitely not impressed by Neha’s double-faced equality and hypocrisy. As the actress was recently part of a Hindi short film ‘Devi’ which beautifully portrayed the real-life cases of rape and sexual abuse on women. The movie had a strong voice about feminism and now the actress sharing her opinion like this is making the world wonder was it a PR stunt?
