On 30th July, NASA successfully launched a rover to explore any sign of life in MARS. By, 2022 we will be able to know about life existence on the red planet. This came as good news for the citizens of Kolkata as a young scientist from the city of joy is part of NASA’s team on mission Mars, isn’t it amazing?
Not to long ago biotechnologist Chiranjit Mukherjee completed his graduation from Heritage Institute of Technology, Kolkata and did his post-graduation and PhD from Ohio State University.
Chiranjit works at NASA as a bioinformatics data scientist. He is part of the Mars team which will analyse the information to be collected by perseverance and its companion, the Ingenuity helicopter drone from the red planet. Once it lands there in February 2021.
As per the reports of TOI, Chiranjit was contacted by TOI via email about his role in the project to which Chiranjit replied, I am handling a rather sensitive project and cannot reveal much, but briefly, the Mars 2020 Mission is looking for signs of habitable conditions on MARS in the ancient past and it’s also searching signs for past microbial life itself. My project is about using computational methods to look at microbial genetic material.
