On, Thursday 26th April Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman held a press conference to announce a relief package for the poor people of the nation. The Central Government announced Rs. 1.70 Lakh Crore package to take care of the welfare concern of financially weaker section of India, migrant workers and the poor people to make sure 'no one will go hungry'. 

Nirmala Sitharaman said the economic relief package for 80 crore poor people, which is 2/3 of our population will be implemented with immediate effects. 

Here's the list of the important announcement made during by the Finance Minister:

  • 8.7 Crore Farmers to get Rs 2000 in their accounts in the first week of April. 
  • MNREGA wages up by Rs 2000 as an additional income for 5 Crore families 
  • Pradhan Mantri Gareeb Kalyan Anna Yojana was announced in which 80 crore people will get 5 Kgs of wheat or rice in addition to the 5 kg rice they already get along with 1kg of pulse per month for the next 3 months. 
  • 20 Crore Women with Jan Dhan Accounts will get Rs. 500 per month for the next 3 months.
  • For poor widows, pensioners and divyang will receive Rs. 1000 as a one-time gratia in two instalments.  
  • Doctors and Medical staff fighting with the deadly virus would get a medical insurance cover of Rs 50 Lakh per person. 
  • The beneficiary of the Ujjwala scheme will get free cooking gas for the next 3 months. 
  • The government will pay the employee provident fund (EPF) for the next three months to maintain the continuity of EPF. It'll be applicable for organisations with 100 employees and 90% of the employees need to draw 15,000. 
  • A welfare fund of Rs. 31, 000 crores to benefit 3.5 crore workers. has been announced for the construction workers to save them from economic disasters and the state governments will be asked to utilise it.
