Finally, after missing numerous deadlines the east-west metro is slated to open its door for the people of Kolkata from 13 February 2020.  The city of joy currently has the north-south metro line stretching from Dumdum to the suburbs of South Garia. 

Kolkata ‘the city of joy’ started the first metro railway service in India for commercial service since 1984. Currently, the city of joy is the fifth-longest stretch in India after Delhi, Hyderabad, Chennai and Bangalore. After 36 years, Kolkata got its second metro corridor as currently, the metro service operates from North to South Kolkata.

On 13th February the east-west metro stretch was inaugurated by Railway Minister Piyush Goyel. The truncated 5-kilometer route is going to connect the city’s technical hub of the Sector V with Yuva Bharati Krirangan (Salt Lake stadium). 

The passengers were presented with red roses were welcomed with red roses on their first ride in East-West metro on 14th February. Passengers are pleased with the new metro and how beautifully the stations have been built and decorated. 

The Kolkata Metro Rail Corporation Limited is executing a 16.60 Km stretch connecting Salt Lake Sector V to Howrah Maidan, it is going to connect the twin city of Kolkata Howrah. 5.8 km stretch is an elevator corridor and 10.2 Km will run underground also a 520 meter under twin tunnels underground is a part of it.
