One of the greatest music events in the world, Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, is where AP Dhillon most recently played. The Punjabi singer's performance was overshadowed, though, by an incident on stage where he destroyed his instrument and received backlash from some social media users.

With a "cringe" Instagram post on Wednesday, the musician appeared to defend his actions, which in turn sparked further criticism.

AP Dhillon captioned a series of candid photos he posted to Instagram of himself performing at Coachella 2024, saying, "The media is controlled and I'm out of control." One of the photos showed him right before he destroyed his guitar.

A fan also commented, "You’re justifying wrong things brother. Do you even recall how we handle musical instruments in your culture? You held that particular guitar during your performance, and it gave out the desired resonance. Wasn't that the best thing after that, destroying it? This is a fool's charade.

More than music, a great musician is in love with his instruments. Respect yourself, own up to it, and apologise to yourself—not to us. All that's visible to us is your graph declining. If your celebrity came via music, at least learn to be grateful for it."
