Recently, Bengali actress Sreelekha Mitra allegedly claimed to have been a victim of professional setbacks due to favouritism in the Bengali film industry. She’s best known for her magnificent performance in films like “Kaantatar”, “Hotath Bristi” and “Aschorjo Prodip”

Sreelekha Mitra’s statement came in the wake of the untimely demise of Sushant Singh Rajput, which sparkled sparked a lot of controversies about Bollywood’s treatment ruthless towards ‘outsiders’.

The actress shared a video on her YouTube channel, stating how she was denied lead roles in movies back in 90’s and early 2000s at the behest of a superstar. 

The 44-year-old actor said in the video, I was proposed to play second lead or play the role of the sister of the lead hero. However, I was overlooked for playing the female lead despite having potentials. 

She further claimed that the superstar was adamant about working with another female actor.  When it comes to casting a female lead, heroes of our industry always have their favourites fixed and they don’t let any other actor get a chance to perform opposite them.

Regardless of having the calibre to perform. I was never considered for a lead role. I was never given the chance, she said. 

Sreelekha’s video brought radar on how superstars are responsible for lobbying in the film industry.
