Who doesn’t love watching movies and who isn’t fond of movies? But have you ever thought how much it costs to make a feature film? Well, big-budget movies cost a ton and they do earn the money which they have invested. The humongous budgets are required for sets, crew and the cast.

Most films are granted strict budgets based on forecasted box office figures, although the budget gambles at times. Here are the ten most expensive movies ever made.

1.Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides

 It is a 2011 American fantasy swashbuckler film, the fourth instalment in the Pirates of the Caribbean film series and the follow-up to At World's End (2007). After the massive success of At World’s End. Disney allocated over $400 million for shooting across Hawaii, Puerto Rico, California and the UK with exclusive 3D cameras. Johnny Depp was also awarded $55.5m for his role as Captain Jack Sparrow.

2. Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End

Well, movies about pirates need a ton of money to make. The lavish production of At World’s End involved a 40-structure set designed to recreate 18th century Singapore and a battle sequence was shot for an extended period in a Californian air hangar at sub-zero temperatures. It had a budget of $300 million.

3. Cleopatra (1963)

Cleopatra is a 1963 American epic historical drama film directed by Joseph L. Mankiewicz. It was a starring vehicle for ultra-glamorous Hollywood couple Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton and no expense was spared. However $31.1 million was the budget of the movie. Actress Elizabeth Taylor due to a delayed production and a lawsuit ended up making $7 million (around $55 million after inflation) from her role. Other expenses included enough boats to give 20th Century Fox the world’s third-biggest navy, a barge costing $2 million (today’s money) and 26,000 costumes it included a dress made from 24-carat gold cloth.

4. Titanic

 Titanic is said to be one of the best movies ever made in history. Recreating the movie costed more than the actual ship itself, with an enormous $305 million budget. It is the first movie to break the $200 million barriers in the box office, the movie swept the Oscars and it has earned $2 billion at the box office to date. A huge amount was spent on the set in the pieces of the real Titanic.

5. Spider-Man 3

 Spider-Man 3 is a 2007 American superhero film based on the fictional Marvel Comics character. It is the most expensive superhero movie ever made it managed to make its budget back but the negative reaction led to the end of the trilogy. The producers invested 89.09 crores USD. However, the money managed to earn 25 crores USD. It was rebooted a few years later as The Amazing Spider-Man.
