Schools are set to open the doors for the students on 12 February 2021. However, in West Bengal colleges & universities would not reopen on the given date. On Wednesday,  State Education Minister Partha Chatterjee conveyed the message in a meeting with the state Higher Education Council, which was attended by vice-chancellors of state universities.

According to the reports, during the meeting, the vice-chancellors requested the state government to allow colleges to allow conducting online classes and exams till March.  However, a month is left to hold exams for odd-semesters (like 1, 3, 5, 7), the vice-chancellors urged to continue with the online classes.

West Bengal Government has agreed to the proposal. Hence, colleges won't be reopening by next month. Partha Chatterjee said teachers and students have got used to online education. Universities have also said they cannot provide hostel facility immediately due to pandemic.

He further added, ”We will issue a specific notification about reopening of schools for higher classes at the appropriate time. That notification will give every detail – about the measures that need to be taken and how many students will be allowed at a time.”
